New Subdivisions

75 Outlook Dr

Around 80 mature trees were recently removed from this property. Because it was treated like a single piece of property, only 10 trees qualified for mitigation.

69 Pleasant St

About 270 mature trees were recently taken down on this property. No Tree Permit has been filed. Because this was treated as a special project, it is likely that it will entirely (and legally) evade the scrutiny of the Tree Bylaw.

Kay Tiffany Way

Another case of the Tree Bylaw failing to protect trees.

There is no record of a Tree Removal Permit ever being filed. That a permit was not even required is consistent with the current treatment of subdivisions.

Victory Garden Way

This lot had previously been the site of Lexington Gardens, contained buildings on the Historic Districts Registry, and was the longtime home of WGBH’s television show “The Victory Garden.”

As it had long been cleared for agricultural use, only a few trees came down to build this subdivision circa 2012. But, beyond some street trees, very few new trees were planted when it was converted into residential property, and the area feels more like a golf course than a neighborhood.

This was a missed opportunity and another example of letting developers save a few dollars without taking the long view.
